So you love making beer as a hobby and want to get the low-down from a fellow hobbyist, now-turned professional Brew Master? Joe Karls of Hinterland Brewery is your man!

While bored in his corporate job, Joe attended The Siebel Institute of Technology in Chicago. With encouragement from his wife, Joe took the big leap of faith in 1995 - he left his corporate life behind and became the Brew Master for Hinterland Brewery in Green Bay, Wisconsin. It’s been nothing but passion for making beer ever since!

My Brew Master mentor at Hinterland was Joe Karls. Being a home brewer for over 16 years I thought I knew what it would be like to be a commercial brew master. I must admit that being immersed in the process gave me an entirely new perspective of what it would be like to be a brew master of my own brewery. While Vocationing at Hinterland, Joe will mentor you in some or all of the following activities:

  • Loading barley and hops - grab the shovel!
  • Mixing the hops into the wort
  • Pitching yeast into the fermenter
  • Conducting lab work. Look at those lil' critters under the microscope!
  • Mashing!
  • Sparging!
  • Bottling!
  • TASTING the rewards of your hard day's labor by hosting in the tasting room!

The Brew Master VocationVacations® dream job holiday includes:

  • One day of one-on-one mentorship in your dream job as a Brew Master
  • The opportunity to participate in a total of one hour of pre- and post-VocationVacation career coaching from an accredited, affiliated VocationVacations career coach
  • A pocket-size VocationVacations journal so you can document your dream job becoming a reality
  • Light lunches with your mentor

Full payment of the VocationVacations dream job holiday is required to make a reservation. A $100 non-refundable fee is assessed if a VocationVacations experience is cancelled or rescheduled prior to 14-days of the scheduled VocationVacations holiday, based on the approved availability of the mentor to reschedule. A VocationVacations adventure cannot be rescheduled and is non-refundable if cancelled within 14 days of the scheduled VocationVacations holiday. Written notification of cancellation or rescheduling is required in all cases. In the US, Grounded Nomads, LLC and VocationVacations holidays encourage all customers to acquire travel insurance to cover any unforeseen expenses due to cancellation or rescheduling.
