Johnnie’s a top expert with over 25 years experience, from roasting to managing and owning several coffeehouses. He’s helped countless others start their own coffee establishments with his expertise.

A born entrepreneur, Johnnie Graves began as a master coffee roaster in the Los Angeles area over 25 years ago, long before franchises existed. He provided his high end coffee blends to many restaurants in the area. It wasn’t long before he began managing restaurants and then became a partner in The Coffee Roaster. Under Johnnie’s expert tutelage, monthly income at The Coffee Roaster doubled after just six months. One year later, Johnnie’s Coffee was born at the Waterside Mall in Marina del Rey. After 13 years of successful operations, Johnnie opened his second location in the Marina Marketplace Mall in 2005. In only six months, Johnnie tripled his business.

How does he do it? Johnnie is one of a kind. He’s a former stand-up comic and no doubt has a personality that engages his customers. So engaging that he met his wife and business partner, Louisa, when she was one of his many daily customers. His unique method of service and his dedication to serving only the best products have helped him succeed in one of the fastest growing industries in America. Presently over 12,000 coffee shops exist across the country. It is predicted that there will be approximately 50,000+ coffee shops by the year 2010. Now is the time to investigate the possibilities of the growing coffee industry. Even during this current economic trend, everyone can afford a cup of coffee!

Johnnie isn’t just meticulous about his special coffee beans that have customers ordering from all over the globe. He also pays special attention to the quality of his health conscious, homemade menu items that include quick and tasty breakfasts, wraps, sandwiches and salads. He makes it a point to meet the needs of a broad customer base with special nutritional concerns like diabetes or allergies.

There’s a lot more to a successful coffee house than simply making coffee. Johnnie is ready to show you the ins and outs of what it really takes, from an entrepreneurial perspective, to be a coffee house owner.

While on your VocationVacations® dream job holiday with Johnnie Graves of Johnnie’s Coffee, activities will include some or all of the following:
  • Gain a Business 101 insight into owning and operating a successful coffee house
  • Set up the store including the outdoor patio….start brewing….and open the doors for the day!
  • Make coffee drinks including espressos, lattes, iced blended drinks and smoothies as well as morning food items such as bagels, toast, and breakfast specials
  • Learn customer service from the master of customer service! Observe Johnnie's unique and fun style of customer service that has them coming back for more (remember: Johnnie was a stand-up comic for 10 years!)
  • Help prep foods for breakfast and lunch including wraps, sandwiches, and salads.
  • Procure supplies – both delivered and non-delivered
  • Assist Johnnie or Louisa with marketing and promotions. These are invaluable tips that will teach you how to build a loyal customer base
  • Restock supplies, set up for next day and close the shop

  • Two days of one-on-one mentorship in your dream job as a Coffeehouse Owner
  • The opportunity to participate in a total of one hour of pre- and post- VocationVacations career coaching from an accredited, affiliated VocationVacations career coach
  • A pocket-size VocationVacations journal so you can document your dream job coming to reality
  • Light lunch provided by your mentors

Reservation, Cancellation and Rescheduling Rules and Conditions:
Each requested date for a VocationVacation is 100% dependent upon the mentor’s approval of dates. Each Vocationer is required to sign a liability release stating that they are 18 years or older, 21 years or older if the VocationVacation involves the production or serving of alcohol. Full payment of the VocationVacation is required to make a reservation. A $100 non-refundable fee is assessed if a VocationVacations experience is cancelled or rescheduled prior to 14-days of the scheduled VocationVacations holiday, based on the approved availability of the mentor to reschedule. A VocationVacation cannot be rescheduled and is non-refundable if cancelled within 14 days of the scheduled VocationVacations holiday. Written notification of cancellation or rescheduling is required in all cases. Grounded Nomads, LLC dba VocationVacations encourages all customers to acquire travel insurance to cover any unforeseen expenses due to cancellation or rescheduling.
