“I thought I knew what my dream job was,” remembers Maggie. After graduation, she pursued a job in the field of accounting joining the auditing department in the Pittsburgh office of Arthur Andersen LLP. “Although I loved the company, I soon discovered accounting was not for me.” When Maggie had the opportunity to take on a consulting project for Arthur Andersen near her hometown of Drums, Pennsylvania, she jumped at the chance and soon realized the people side of the business really resonated with her. When Arthur Andersen closed its doors in 2002, new doors opened for Maggie. She went on to become a certified life purpose and career coach; worked as the Director of Learning and Development for Martha Steward Living Omnimedia and established a successful career consulting practice. Her relationship with Martha Stewart Living led her in yet another career direction when she was asked to become their on-air radio career coach. Today, “Making a Living with Maggie” airs one hour every Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on SIRIUS 112 and XM 157 Satellite Radio. “I offer listeners both inspiring and practical advice and the tools and resources to help them pursue their dreams and their goals,” explains Maggie. Who listens to Maggie’s show? “Since everyone has to make a living, our show attracts a very broad audience from homemakers to truckers to executives.” Well-known authors, recognized experts, celebrities and everyday people join Maggie on her show. The “Day in the Life” segment of the program features people who have pursued and attained successful careers. “I have interviewed celebrities like Martha Stewart, Sally Field, and Deepak Chopra,” shares Maggie. “And non-celebrities like the mom who successfully returned to the work force and the executive who followed his dreams to a new business.” Maggie is committed to helping people find and create their ideal careers, and this commitment comes across on the air. “It is important to be both passionate and credible,” says Maggie. “To be a good talk show host you also need to be engaging, knowledgeable and approachable; confident with your message and your delivery; unafraid to speak your mind and able to react on the spot.” On your VocationVacation with Maggie you will learn what goes on before and during the program. “It takes three to four hours of preparation for every hour you are in the studio,” she says. Researching topics, identifying prospective guests, contacting and booking them and preparing questions are just some of the details associated with each show.” “Managing these details can be challenging,” admits Maggie. “But when a caller tells me about the ‘aha’ moment they experienced listening to my program and how that moment changed their life, it is so rewarding.” In addition to being a mentor for VocationVacations, Maggie is also an affiliated career coach with VocationVacations.
