Do you have an innate interest in style and design? Are you an insightful communicator able to gain people’s trust to help them reach their goals? Do you believe anyone can put their best foot forward if they can identify what it takes to make them both look and feel good? Then you may have the traits and skills to become an image consultant. Join Erika Chloe, owner of My Image Expert, for a VocationVacation® that will help you decide if this career truly is the “right look” for you. Erika Chloe always knew she wanted to be in the fashion business. Following her dreams, Erika graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan. “My first break into the fashion business was as an intern at Harper’s Bazaar,” says Erika. She was then hired full-time to work on the editorial side of the magazine. Although this was a good learning experience, Erika discovered it was not what she wanted to do in the fashion world. “It was not fulfilling. I realized I really wanted to design,” Erika explains. She went to work for V. Fraas designing both the company’s collection and private label collections for stores like Bloomingdales and Lord & Taylor. She also gained valuable experience working for Aeropostale designing their junior retail collection. Ultimately, Erika took her skills and experience and launched her own successful line of hand-made, custom couture clothes, E,C Stitch. Erika’s innate ability to relate to her clients’ needs and sense of image contributed to her success as a designer and, ultimately, to yet another career shift into the image consulting business. “I realized as an image consultant I could merge everything I had done in the fashion industry into one effort,” explains Erika. She could combine the technical and craft side of design with the visible presentation side of styling and help people create their own customized image. Today, My Image Expert is a premier image and fashion consulting firm with consultants in New York, Philadelphia, Maryland, Washington, D.C. and California. Its highly trained and experienced team of 20 consultants help clients develop their own personalized look. “When they come to us, clients are often hesitant and insecure about their looks,” Erika shares. “Inside they may see themselves a certain way, but they don’t feel they look that way on the outside. Our job is to bridge that gap and knock down the walls that are preventing them from portraying that inner image.” The staff provides insightful, sociological means of communication that’s helpful when working with their clients. This helps to build a level of trust so clients will feel confident accepting their recommendations and guidance. Erika and her team work with people from all walks of lives – professionals, athletes, artists, small and large business professionals, stay-at-home moms, actors, etc. From individualized assessments and make-overs, to presentations before hundreds of corporate executives, the goal of My Image Expert is to help people find the most powerful and effective image that complements their personal and professional goals and lifestyle. From providing the best clothing solutions and fashion advice, to hair styling, makeup tips and cosmetic procedures, Erika and her team of experts have access to the resources to handle any situation no matter how minor or severe. Sound like a rewarding and exciting career? If you are interested in becoming an image consultant, Erika suggests you take some initial steps to prepare for the business. “Don’t think just because you are a good dresser you can be an image consultant,” warns Erika. “Getting some training in a fashion related field and some hands-on experience is important to determining if it is a good career for you. Then if you think it is, you need to be persistent in pursuing it.” While on your Image Consultant VocationVacations® career mentorship with Erika Chloe at My Image Expert, activities will include some or all of the following activities:
